Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-23-2008, 07:20 AM - Forum: Famous/not so famous Audio & Video Clips from the War - Replies (2)

Gerome sent this to me a while back. This is current film footage (mixed with war footage) which was shot in the Vosges. Gerome is the last one interviewed in the film. Here is his email to me explaining the footage.

Note: When you go the the site, you have to scroll down to the 4th post which reads: Sujet : William Tucci, dessinateur américain, dans les Vosges, à propos de sa bande-dessinées sur la Seconde Guerre Mondiale.

F3 : 04/03/08 , then click on the video.

  NEW - Sitreps - 36th Engineers
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-22-2008, 01:25 PM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (32)

Captain John Fallon was captivated by all the National Archive documents I was able to obtain from College Park, Maryland on my dad's unit. Well after a long period, John was able to obtain the sitreps for his unit too.

Well he one-upped me :clappin2: and had all the documents copied to disk as PDF files (now I'm jealous), so he could not only share them with his buddies, but with us too. God bless you John. So today I uploaded the two large files, and placed them on their page. You can view the files here under Sitreps:

Enjoy! It's my pleasure to present these for public viewing. :drinkin:

Sir,

We will be heading back to Fort Hood at the beginning of June. I will be sure our Rear Detachment gets you on our invite list for our homecoming ceremony. We are all very excited to come home!

I have attached our latest newsletter for your review and distribution to our alumni.

ENJOY!

Our reunion for the WWII veterans has been scheduled for this September and I am going to send out the first of two announcements. Have you any news of the Brigade that I can pass on to the men? I hope you are about due for a trip to the States pretty soon, you've been there quite a while.

Infantry

"Dig a hole in your backyard while it is raining. Sit in the hole while the water climbs up around your ankles. Pour cold mud down your shirt collar. Sit there for forty-eight hours, and so there is no danger of your dozing off, imagine that a guy is sneaking around waiting for a chance to club you on the head or set your house on fire. Get out of the hole, fill a suitcase full of rocks, pick it up, put a shotgun in your other hand, and walk on the muddiest road you can find. Fall flat on your face every few minutes, as you imagine big meteors streaking down to sock you. If you repeat this performance every three days for several months you may begin to understand why an infantryman gets out of breath. But you still won't understand how he feels when things get tough." -Bill Mauldin

Map from Larry Lundy - 1301st Engineers - Co D
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-20-2008, 10:36 AM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - Replies (5)

Marion, Peter, Bill

I went to Little Rock today (finally) and got the map copied to a disk. The PDF files are quite large, one is 65 MB and the other is 119 MB, and I’m afraid they will not send through email. They did turn out quite well. You can increase or decrease the size and rotate the map and addresses. I have Marion’s and Peter’s address but if you want a copy Bill I will need your mailing address. Hopefully this will be a great addition to your webpage and help to get the word out to the members of Co D and their families and also get new stories and pictures to add to your collection.

Thanks for your help and patience

Larry Lunday

=================================

Larry's dad is Herbert H Lunday - 1301st General Service Regiment. He sent the letter to Peter Culos who is the nephew of a 1301st engineer, and also to my dear friend Bill Douglass who is a member of the 130st.

I plan on sharing the PDF files, one which is the map itself and the other which contains dozens of signatures of the men with their addreses, but as Larry states, the files are HUGE! I am trying to find a way to compress them further to make them more accessible. I may try and take a snapshot of the map to see how that comes out. Till later lads and lasses...
