The Group 'Present Arms' during the raising of 'Old Glory'.

This was the start of the day of training and displaying in the

magnificent grounds of Littlecote House, Hungerford, Wiltshire, England.

Which was the home of the 101st 506th AB during WW11.

  Those SS B*******S

Several of our guys took part in a German organised 'battle' the other weekend.

On being captured in a house by the 'SS TROOPERS' our guy was marched out the house

told to kneel down, the SS Trooper then tapped him on his helmet and then fired his rifle

above our guys head telling him he was dead from a head shot !!!!! :armata_PDT_19:

My God, will it never go away. Is banning them our only course ? :armata_PDT_19:

Another story by Art Cook - 36th Combat Eng

A, as I so affectionately call him by, has contributed yet another wonderfully warm story regarding the war. It sure will be a fine additional to the documentary. This is just the thing I wanted!

------------------------

Hi M.

1: 15 AM and I'm awake - thought of a story. haha!

Co "E" had just made the invasion of Sicily July '43, and we had moved from the beach into Licata to upgrade our operation getting supplies ashore.

One of my men had learned that, up in the hills North of Licata there existed a gentleman (Italian) who owned an ice cream making set up, but long ago stopped making iced cream cause he had no electricpower.

Now my wonderful outfit - a long time (2 years), no ice cream .

Wouldn't it be great to have some ice cream?

So I hatched a plan with my Mess Sergeant to see if we ciould we make a plan to send our portable generator up there and make ice cream just for a surprise for our troops.

About a 12-14 hour trip to get there, make the cream, freeze it and bring it back to our bivuoac at LICATA.

Sent a couple of guys with a jeep, the liquid, and the generator early in the morning. Plan to be back with a treat for evening Mess.

End of day we are eating with great anticipation and hoping to have our treat for dessert, the treat was not in sight and we delayed in every way possible hoping against hope that our plan would bear fruit.

Finally here comes the jeep covered with dust and roaring, snorting and a couple of smiling soldiers, and they had the ice cream with them.

The cooks took no time getting ready to serve this treat.

The first man up to get his ration of ice cream took one look at the goodie he had just been served - a disappointed look on his face and he said "WHAT, VANILLA!".

Yours A.

Cliff Duncan media file - 540th Combat Eng

Can a few of you check this out and tell me whether or not you can view this clip? Cliff Duncan is a 540th Engineer, and his neighbor sent me an email last night to let me know that Cliff and Eloise are fine, and that he had this clip on an Ohio Historical site.

I tried to view it from several different computers within our network, and cannot view it. I get an error warning. Dang! I wrote to the webmaster to ask him what the problem might be, since I don't have problems viewing or listening to any kind of media files.

Let me know what happens for you. I hope it works for you.

----------

12:48 PM Heard back from the webmaster. The problem is not on my end.

Marion,

The problem you are encountering is that we had a server crash last week.

I have, unfortunately, been unable to allocate time to fix this issue until

sometime this week.

Aside from the online files (which are low resolution) NORWELD has all of

our interviews on normal resolution DVD- which may suit your needs better

for including clips in a documentary. I'll make sure I forward your letter

to my director, Allan Gray.
