Getting ready for Memorial Day Display
Posted by: ANDRE'S SON - 05-11-2007, 12:01 AM - Forum: Reenactors Corner - Replies (1)

Well today I spent the day around World War II canvas. What a smell!! We are getting ready for our yearly military history display and my buddy picked up a small wall tent (1942) and a large wall tent (1944) - The Large wall tent was for free w/poles :armata_PDT_37: Though it has a few rips and holes in it. No big deal. So today we pulled them out and took a look at them. The large wall we hand to put all new guide lines on it and fix the ridge pole as someone cut it in half :banghead: So we got it all fixed up and decided we needed to put it up. What a job that was!! That tent is about 14' by 15' and 12' tall!!! What a task. Got it up and then just lounged under it. It was great!!!

Wish I had my camera with me, I would have taken a pic of it.

Just thought I would share. It sure was a blast and was great to be doing something I enjoy instead of being stuck at work.

  Les Chant des Partisans
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 05-09-2007, 11:31 PM - Forum: Great Tunes from WWII - Replies (8)

Rennog sent me a great French tune from 1943, titled, Les Chant des Partisans. For those of you who do not PARLEZ FRANCAIS  , it means The Song of the Partisans. He sent me the link to the page and here are the words in French:

I am uploading the tune to our music site right now.

The song was written in honor of the patriots and was dropped into occupied France by the Royal Airforce. It became the anthem for the liberation.

The words basically say, friends do your hear the call and cries across the plains. When the alarms ring tonight, the enemy will know the price of blood and tears. Says to descend the hills and take out the weapons (rifles, grenades), and it calls out for sabatage. The third verse call for breaking the bars of your prison and the hunger and misery that grip all our brothers and pushes us. The fourth paragraph calls for us to listen and if a friend falls, another will take his place. The blood will dry on the sunny roads and sing companions for liberty will hear.

Okay Martin, how did I do?:D

  39th Combat Engineers Reunion 2007
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 05-09-2007, 04:41 AM - Forum: VETERAN'S REUNIONS - Replies (2)

Here's an excerpt from David Wagner to me:

Hi Marion,

Another reunion of the 39th is really going to happen. Although we have

had 3 "last reunions" this one will very probably be the final reunion.

It's going to be held in Oklahoma City over the Labor Day weekend. I

don't know how many of us will be able to make it but as long as we are

well, Selma and I intend to be there...
