Memorial Day 2008
#27

I received a letter tonight from the author of this poem.

Hello,

I saw, on your forum, that you use some of my texts written in honour of GI's fallen for the freedom of France.

First all, these texts are badly translated. You will find attached, the original texts.

Beside, these texts are under copyright and cannot be spread without my agreement at the risk of a 4500 € fine and 6 months of prison by French law. To avoid you such an inconvenience, I grant you this agreement.

Excuse my bad English

Sincerely your

So just as future reference, I guess we will have to be very careful what we copy to the forum in the future. Even though he agreed to let us use this, we certainly do not want to get in trouble with the law.

I like particularly this poem of Hubert DENYS.

I hope I have translated well.

But to be on You I put the version French.

In case you would want translate it yourself.

Who did you?

And first of all, who did you?

Me? I am not much, almost nothing

From cannon fodder, a G.I

Those whom we call the Ricans

I'm the one who came with many others,

Who is entered in Normandy in force

To play the Samaritans, good apostles,

I contributed to your release

We arrived, chewing gum pockets full,

Doing with the fingers, the V for victory

we believed that we could easily drive the boche out.

And of even blow enter into history

We are critical, we éreinte,

We are the Ricans, Amerlos,

But we came to you without a complaint,

And no regrets, we entered the water.

We went through all these beaches:

GOLD, SWORD, JUNO, UTAH and OMAHA,

Under enemy fire, we came out barges,

And without hesitation, we delivered combat.

Today, June 6, it is our anniversary,

On the day disaster of the greatest battle

One day which made crying so many mothers,

And we bardé a chest of medals.

We were proud to fight for FRANCE,

For us, you sent LA FAYETTE,

We expressed our gratitude,

And largely repaid our debt.

With my friends, we are here in this land,

In this corner of Normandy really banal,

once a year, we are said a prayer,

But we rest in the general indifference.

Please, a little recognition,

We came for you by thousands,

Fleet order that the flag of FRANCE,

and the world enjoys freedom again .

We are not asking much:

A little respect, a minute's silence

a rose laid down on our grave ,

It's little compared to delivrance.

Hubert DENYS

French version;

Qui t'es toi? Et d'abord, qui t'es toi?

Moi?

Hubert DENYS
