The passing of Larry Babine - 36th Combat Eng
#1

This one is particularly hard on my heart. There are certain people you meet, and you take an immediate liking to them, and Larry was certainly one of those men. I had the pleasure of meeting him in person too.

I received this a few days ago, but it was very upsetting and I have to admit I put it on the back-burner for a few days.

I just sent a response to his dear daughter, and wanted to share this with all of you.

One of his photos is featured in the opening of my documentary. That's all I want to say right now for it's very hard for me to type this...

============

I know these messages are coming all too often. My dad, Laurence Babine, passed away yesterday, December 23rd. He had a major stroke on 12/9 and planned on several weeks of rehab at the same nursing home where my mother is. With an ironic twist of life, after being apart for the past year, they had a week together as roommates. He struggled these last 2 weeks; as my husband said, he sure was rugged.

My heart goes out to you.. There is never a time when a loss is not difficult, but I know what it means to lose a loved one at this time of year, when there is so often pressure to "be happy." May God give you strength and comfort during this time.

Sincerely,

Jim Nelson

Everytime I see one of these (too many, as of late) I am reminded of my grandfather and his passing a few years back. It makes me very sad. Larry (and that is a great among the unpublished photos of the war) will be in my thoughts and prayers as all WWII vets are.

I keep saying damn, damn, damn. Whew, this is really getting me down. I keep trying to put it on the back-burner, but...

I know so many of you can relate to how I am feeling, and...

And yes, that is one of my very favorite photos. I am so glad it is included in the documentary, so everyone will be able to see it.
