  A Lamb to Slaughter
Posted by: 3_7_I_Recon - 01-28-2006, 09:28 AM - Forum: WWII Books & Magazines - No Replies

I am reading a book that I found for only a few dollars at a used book sale, it is called "A Lamb to Slaughter", by Jan Montyn and Dirk Avelt Koolman. It is about Jan Montyn's youth and eventual service in the Kreigsmarine and eventually to the infantry. Montyn is Dutch and grew up in Oudewater.

I was wondering if anyone here has ever read this or heard of this guy?

I googled his name and found this website: http://www.janmontyn.com/ he is still going strong.

  Wallet from WWII
Posted by: EVELYN - 01-26-2006, 11:08 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (13)

I have scanned many things that were in my dad's wallet from his days as 1sgt H&S Company 175th Engineer Regiment (GS). one item dates back to Camp Bowie,Tx May 10 1942. It is two one dollar IOUs from the Camp Bowie PX from Edward L. Clark which promises to pay the PX. Vehicle permit, passes to R&R sites in Italy, Lire, joke, tickets to see Irving Berlin in This is the Army, etc. I will attempt to attach some of these.

War Stories - An English DVD
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 01-25-2006, 08:24 AM - Forum: TV Shows, Film, Videos - No Replies

My husband recently took out a DVD from NetFlix called War Stories. He thought it was going to be from the series by Colonel Oliver North. Well it wasn't, but boy what a pleasant surprise we got. B)

This was put together a few years ago and features about 8 different stories regarding the British. Extremely well-done. Superb interviews, photos, film and more.

We still have about two or three more to view, but what I've seen so far is very impressive and I strongly urge anyone interested to either rent it or buy it.

Last night we watched one regarding British war correspondents. The tales are incredible.

Some of the feats and that are covered are just mind-numbing. The words of captured British soldiers will just creep under your skin. What these guys had to endure. The spy stories are most astounding. You did what? You got away with what? Really you have to watch this one.

I will try and get more info regarding who produced this little treasure, etc.

It was made in 2002.
