  Peter's photos
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 06-26-2006, 11:17 AM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (1)

Peter from the In-Honored-Glory website, sent me these photos.

In Honored Glory

...I created something they could place in their museum, from my website. I took a 32 by 25 inch photoframe and in there I put pictures of all the men who are buried at Henri-Chapelle and whose story is published on my website at the moment. I also send you the picture of the frame and a picture of Marcel & Mathilde from the museum, who just received the frame.

Best wishes,

Your friend,

Peter.

  Book Clubs

I know everyone has seen the ads for these clubs, but has anyone ever joined? I know that when you first sign up you can get 5 books for .50 each. But you have to commit to buy 2 books at regular price within so much time, what are their regular prices??

  Tried calling 3-7-I Recon yesterday
Posted by: twobisquit - 06-25-2006, 07:42 PM - Forum: OTHER WWII UNIT STORIES AND INFO - Replies (7)

Tried calling Recon yesterday. His phone in the assisted living with medical care

place was disconnedted. Checked with 411 and was given the same phone #. Tried

again twice. Disconnedted phone. Russ has not been on the computer for many months but I still E mail him, with no answere each time. Phone him about each month

though. (he is in Fl and I am in NJ). I have his last phone # and his address in Tampa

if they are still there. I have one hell of a time keeping tabs on him lately and have located him twice prior when he dropped from sight. So far, no luck and have spent

hours trying. Any ideas??? Had the same thing happen about 3 years ago when my

buddy from the same company "suddenly dissapeared" when living in CA. and never

could find anything out. I dont know which "assisted living" place they lived at. Just

the address. Any ideas???

  291 engineer combat battalion
Posted by: gbuscg - 06-22-2006, 03:17 PM - Forum: LOOKING FOR... - Replies (4)

I’m looking for all the info I can get on the “291st engineer combat battalionâ€.

They did a real good job at the Malmedy/Stavelot perimeter in the Ardennes by blowing up a bridge to prevent the Peiper panzer div. to cross the river .

They were also the first Bn to witness the Massacre of Malmedy where the Krauts executed 82 POW.

I’m doing some research on Captain Paul Kamen , who got KIA somewhere around Remagen 3 days before the end of the war .

I can use all the info you guys got .

Thanks

My father was in 253d Engr Combat BN, Seventh Army, trained at Camp Crowder and Camp Campbell, Ky in summer of 1944, before debarking for UK then to Europe in fall of 1944. DD-214 says they were part of Central Europe campaign. After V-E day they stayed in Heidenheim GE as part of reconstruction group until returning to NYC in April 1946.

I have limited information from my dad, but discovered many photographs taken stateside before they debarked, and some from Europe- a couple traveling the Autobahn, a couple in fox holes during the winter of 44-45, and which seem to be Heidenheim.

I did make contact with one of my dad's comrads, Mr. Frank Perlberg, who happened to be in one of my dad's pictures. Mr. Perlberg filled in some details---they debarked Boston on SS West Point to Liverpool. They returned from Heidenheim to Le Havre via train (my dad has pictures) then to NYC via SS Sea Robin.

DD-214 says the unit was part of XI Corps, but I find no reference to any of this Corp being in Europe---was in the Pacific. I wonder if its a typo and should be VI Corps. I have been unable to find the unit listed or referenced anywhere.
