  90th Birthday of the battle of the crest of Vimy
Posted by: sixgun - 04-21-2007, 06:33 AM - Forum: WWI - Replies (3)

Has the memory of 66 000 Canadians soldiers who sacrifed themselves for the peace and the freedom during the first WORLD WAR .

The turning point came in April 1917, at Vimy ridge . All four Canadian divions were in the line togehter, and for the first time they all attacked- together- an objective that had so far held firm against British and French assaults. On 9 April - it was easter monday in 1917- having prepared thoroughly , they went forward through the sleet and snow and took the heights.Thereafter, they never lost a battle, and people rightly spoke about the " Canadien way of war".

Some say that the Canadian nation was forged at Vimy ninety years ago because it was , perhaps, the first time when Canadians from coast to coast to coast had done a great thing together.

Just got this letter and man he was right. I screwed up when I revamped...

Marion,

The best songs on your previous web page was "Andrews Sisters Medley by Misha". Although this medley is on your printable list, it is not on the playable list.

Is this just an oversight, or is there a specific reason for it not being available?

Thanks,

Edward Saraffian

=============

Dear Edward:

Thank God you wrote, I must have accidentally deleted it when I was revamping. Oh GEEZ! It's one of my very favorites too. Well don't fret because it's being uploaded as I type. Wow, thanks for writing!

Make sure you refresh the page in about 10 minutes. It will appear once again.

Sincerely,

Marion Chard

  Another great letter
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 04-20-2007, 04:05 PM - Forum: Great Tunes from WWII - No Replies

Received these letters today. These really made my day.

============================

Dear Marion,

Thank you so much for sharing the music from the World War II era.

My father served in World War II and is still living, although he is now 92

and his health is declining. I am in the process of scanning all the pic-

tures he took while serving in Africa and Europe. I hope to be able to

then burn a DVD , so that he can view them on his TV, since his vision is

poor.

The reason I am e-mailing is that I would love to also include the music

you have on your website from World War II. Is it available to purchase

CD or for download? I was reading the list to my father and considering

how poor his memory has become, he remembered almost all the songs

on your list. He doesn't have a computer, so I would love to be able to

give him this music to enjoy. Please let me know if there is anyway I

could have access or record this music for him. I have found some CD's

with recordings similar to yours but not the selection or quality of songs

you have. Thanks again, my mom and I did an over the phone sing along

thanks to you.

Thank You For Your Time,

Pam Bray

McLeansville, NC

P.S. Dad was in the 9th Signal Corp of the 9th Division

===============================

I am sending them a five-disk set for her dear ol' dad!

===============================

Oh Marion,

That would be awesome. I can't tell you what joy that music has

brought to my parents and that is something my father finds very little of

at this point in his life. Please tell me who to make the check out to and where to send it or if you have a website, I can pay online. I can't wait to get the CD's. This is truly a blessing. I will send you a copy of the DVD once I finish, so you can see the finished project I am working on for dad. He has such incredible pictures from Africa, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and it seems one other country.

Thanks again for making this project perfect for a man I dearly love and respect.

Sincerely,

Pam

  The Enemy of my Enemy is my Friend...

Recently I heard an historian give a breakdown of how Germany's troops were allocated during WWII... 5% in Italy, 15-20% to other occupied countries, and a whopping 75-80% of German troops & armor were needed on the Eastern Front during the war, just to keep the Russians back! It made me think how fortunate it was that Hitler betrayed Stalin in 1941, and also that FDR's cool head was in the White House to keep Stalin and Churchill at the same table. Just consider how horrific our own losses were during WWII...then imagine Germany with 75-80% more troops,tanks, and airplanes available. It is doubtful that we could have prevailed with only the British & Canadians on our side. On the other hand, Germany was just a stone's throw from Moscow...Give Hitler back the 25% of his forces that were tied up with the Western front, and take away the lease/lend aid to Russia, and the world might be very different today! All things considered I think both the USA and Russia were fortunate that we were able at least temporarily, to put our differences aside. It's a shame that the brave soldiers who fought with the Red Army and defeated one Tyrant had nothing better to return to than another one, but they were fighting for their motherland, not Stalin. I hope that before all our veterans of WWII are gone , there will be some kind of celebration that includes the elderly veterans of the former Soviet Union.
