  "Hitler...The Rise of Evil"
Posted by: afc7883 - 05-03-2007, 02:12 PM - Forum: TV Shows, Film, Videos - Replies (16)

Hoooiee, do I have a good one to tell about today! I bought this movie on ebay and watched it yesterday. It was a made for TV mini-series that was not released. The only copies available to the public now were made for Academy members for Emmy consideration and are already being sold as Collector's items. The box on mine says "For Your Consideration In All Categories." Okay, enough on that... This series is killer! It depicts Hitler's life from his days as a no-count artist through his imprisonment and rise to power, and ends before war is declared. The actors are mostly British, although Mathew Modine (Memphis Belle) has a large role in it also. The actor who plays young Hitler doen't much reseamble the real one, but his intensity in this role more than make you forget that and feel like you are watching the development of a true Sociopath. Highly recommend if you get a chance to see it.

BTW...if anybody has a DVD player that can also record and make duplicates I would be more than happy to loan any of the movies in my collection that might interest you.

Cheers!

  USS Helena

I met David Bouchard after he sent me an email telling me how much he loved the music site. We began corresponding last month, and he is the webmaster to this site:

http://www.usshelena.org/

Here's an excerpt from one of his letters:

...She had a life from 1945 until about 1962 or so. She was in moth balls for a number of years and then was sold for scrap in the early 70s. Not sure about dates off the top of my head.

I looked at some parts of your web page and will certainly look at more. Have always been a WWII buff.

I am retired military with 27 years service. Most of my winter hours are spent adding to and improving our Helena web page.

From late spring into early fall, my wife and I spend our days working on our flower beds and shade gardens and of course, another web page.

All but two pictures on this page were taken by me.

Again, thanks for writing!!

  A Girl on Schindlers List

In a post regarding Auschwitz, our buddy Martin added his comments about this book. I had not heard of it before. Sounds like something that I need to have in my WWII library. Here are the two links he provided. I am also adding a link to Amazon.com.

On Common Ground: A World War II Reunion
Posted by: afc7883 - 04-30-2007, 05:29 PM - Forum: TV Shows, Film, Videos - Replies (5)

Just finished viewing this one. The title made me think it had great potential but I found it rather dull, really. There was very little discussion of the battle on either side, and it seemed like the two groups of men struggled to find anything to say to each other. Glad I was able to just rent this one.... :pdt33: . I wasn't very much fun to watch but I am always glad to see WWII Veterans find some closure by visiting the places where they served. :pdt34:
