  My Dad's "Homefront"
Posted by: arve - 02-14-2008, 02:51 PM - Forum: THE HOME FRONT - Replies (3)

Here are some photos of the my Dad's "homefront". These are the faces he was surely longing to see. Like all the other families, Dad's parents & sister kept him going with cards :envelope: , letters, food, care packages - and most of all LOVE :heartpump::love7: .

These pictures were taken in Feb 1944 and sent to him at Anzio (I can only imagine how he

must've felt when he opened his mail & saw his dear home & family).

Here's his home at 21 Fairbanks Ave Wellesley MA, his parents, his sister Mary (taken in front of St John's Church where they were baptised & me too! and where Dad served at Mass as an altar boy). Last, but not least, is Dad's dog Jeff sunning himself in a pile of leaves fall 1943.

Who were YOUR loved :love7: ones on the homefront?

Watched a documentry on tv called ' Ross Kemp in Afhganistian' wow!!

This guy is an English tv soap star who spent six months in AFHGANISTIAN

with members of the British Army ..The Royal Anglian Regt. Their helmet

cams showed a 'FRIENDLY FIRE' incident in which 3 soldiers are killed and 2 wounded

by U.S. fighter, not sure if these clips show that, but what was interresting was the comments of the

rest of that platoon in saying ' it was just one of those things, although we are shocked and sick

those pilots are doing a good job.

We know that without the fire support of the aircraft we wouldn't be here'. Have a looksee.

Hey moose,

Have any thoughts on this? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtm...ealights111.xml Never mind the logical ramifications of doing this - "We're saving the planet!"

  36th Combat Engineer Archived Footage
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 02-09-2008, 10:21 PM - Forum: Famous/not so famous Audio & Video Clips from the War - Replies (3)

Yeee-hawww! Just acquired some film footage from the National Archives in College Park, Maryland, thanks to my private researcher Caroyln Billups. Thanks CB! :armata_PDT_37:

There are a few different sections within the footage. I haven't had much of a chance to decipher it yet, but can give you some info.

1st section is footage of the 36th Combat Engineers building a wooden bridge. If you look closely at the film when two engineers are using a saw, you can discern a 36th engineers patch on the soldier on the right.

The second section shows a medic from the 34th Infantry Division. You can clearly see his Red Bull patch. This one is for you Rocky! :drinkin:

The rest looks like Sicily or Italy and maybe some from North Africa, doesn't it?

Later in the week I am going to try to improve the imaging. Hope you enjoy it. Pretty cool stuff. :clappin:
