  You Nazty Spy
Posted by: Jim Davis - 01-05-2009, 09:06 PM - Forum: WWII Humor - No Replies

My absolute favorite WWII humor, and my absolute favorite Three Stooges short is "You Nazty Spy". Moe Howard is brilliant as dictator Moe Hailstone, a paper hanger turned dictator. Hail. Hail. Hailstone !

Good thing for the Stooges that we won the war. I can only imagine what 'ole sour puss Schiklegruber would have done to the boys for their mockery.

  Civil War Monument
Posted by: civilwargal - 01-05-2009, 02:38 PM - Forum: The US Civil War - No Replies

For the past several years I have been fortunate enough to be involved in getting a monument placed at Vicksburg National Battlefield commemerating the 9th Connecticut Volunteers that died during the seige of Vicksburg. Two states that were there, Vermont and Connecticut, did not have any monuments. Even though they were not "engineers" the task they were assigned was an engineering task. They were charged with rerouting the Mississippi River to leave the city of Vicksburg "high and dry" and allowing Federal boats free navigation of the river. The park system just put the monument photos up on the web site

  Casablanca

Aside from the more memorable quotes from this great film I'm growing partial to the line Rick speaks when he's talking to Ilsa of their time in Paris, "I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray and you wore blue." Yep. That would cover all the significant details.

Ahhhhhh, to have lived in those times :love7:

But as ole Georgie Patton would have said, "I did."

Things GI's painted on their equipment
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 01-04-2009, 08:29 AM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (39)

Okay guys and gals. After reading a post by Frank G, I thought we'd start a new post. Here's my quote from his post...

I always loved when the GI's painted names on their guns, etc. Hitler's Hell is no exception. Some were very creative, some right to the point. Just gave me an idea; we should start a new post with the painted phrases from various GI's throughout the war. Ya, that would be cool.

So here we go. A little bit of history. A little bit of fun! Go for it!!! I'm looking up some right now...

  The Diekirch museum
Posted by: Frank Gubbels - 01-02-2009, 01:53 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (15)

Hello everyone.

Last Sunday I went to Luxembourg with a friend of me who is also interested in WW2.

We went to Diekirch to visit the National museum. If you are in the neighbourhood you will have to visit this museum. It's outstanding.

Here is a picture report.

At the entrance there are 2 US sherman tanks and 3 canons. I only know that the last canon is a 105 mm houwitser.

They putted a part of Siegfried line in front of the tank. (The Dragonteeth where you can dry your laundry ;) )

Big canon

The Long Tom. A US 155 mm Houwitzer.

Voie de la liberte. Liberty post as you can also see in Normandy.

105 mm Houwitser. Jeroen is standing in front of it.
