  Anzio Annie
Posted by: sixgun - 01-07-2009, 06:05 AM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - No Replies

Long time Controversial the sector of Anzio in Italy, following the landing designed to circumvent the Gustav line and pave the road to Rome, was a nightmare for U.S. troops blocked a long time between mountains and beaches. The area was swept day and night by the German artillery. The largest shells were fired by two monstrous 280-mm guns mounted on rails, which swung by more than 40 km distance from the "machine" of 560 pounds! Passing above the head of the troops, and these shells were the sound of locomotives and the GI's had baptized these guns "Anzio Annie" or Anzio Express. It was Krupp K5 long gun whose design began in the late 30s. the Two guns in service in Italy s' called actually Robert" and Leopold. Recovered sabotaged at the end of 1944,One was sent in Maryland to the USA, and another throne… in France with the museum of Cap Gris Nez.

  38th signal battalion
Posted by: Frank Gubbels - 01-06-2009, 11:10 AM - Forum: OTHER WWII UNIT STORIES AND INFO - Replies (3)

Here I am again with a question -_-<_<

I am looking for more information about the 38th signal battalion. I searched the forums here and the internet. I only came up with this here.

http://www.ibiblio.org/cizewski/felixa/normandy/38th.html

They have been in our village as you can see on the second document. We knew they were here from December 44 - January 45 but that has been expanded untill March 45. I also found an address from the association or something like that.

Does anybody have more information? Any help will be appreciated.

Regards,

Frank

The G.I also washed in the WN 66

The G.I also washed in the WN 66… On Colleville Sur Mer the east of the valley of Ruquet on Colline.

Place has a little of relaxation after the terror of landing... Is certainly farther than on June 6th, but I found this vision Omaha original and not often seen !

Vee

I don't yet own this film but I've watched several clips from it on You Tube. Chaplan is absolutely brilliant in his mockery.
