New photos of MY engineers
#1

If you read (and you should) the what's new section of this forum on a regular basis, then you have already seen the link to my friend Denis's site regarding his father a photographer for the 3rd Infantry Division. Please if you have some extra time, get a cup of java and sit down in front of his site (as opposed to sitting behind it?) and look through all these fantastic B&W photos.

I have only made it a third of the way so far, but have already found a few pics of the 36th and 540th Combat Engineers. These will be up on the main site soon, but wanted to post them here for all to see. Of course I was thrilled when I stumbled upon them.

Thanks Denis for the taking the time to upload all of those. :pdt34: You must be very proud of your dad!

The 540th Engineer Combat Group operated two heavy pontoon rafts and two infantry support rafts on the Rhine River on March 26, 1945 between Bobenheim and Worms while supervising the building of two bridges across the River.

The 36th Combat Engineers come ashore at Red Beach near Cavalaire Sur-Mer. The bar on this tractor called to pull a stalled truck from the surf reads "Nevada, Montana, Pussy Cat".

Third Division Commander Gen. John "Iron Mike" O'Daniel discusses beach activity with the C.O. of the 36th Engineer's shore party on Red Beach, part of the "Alpha" beach landings near Cavalaire Sur-Mer.

Note:

The 36th CE landed with the 3rd Inf in France.

The 540th CE landed with 36th Inf Div in France.

In St. Die, artillery moves across a Bailey bridge. The Meurthe River was first crossed on November 20 north of St. Die with the help of the 10th Engineers and the 36th Combat Engineer Regiment.

Cool. I love those photos.

I noticed on the one of the jeeps crossing the Rhine, that the trailer he is pulling is marked on the back with not 1 but 2 STARs and circle and "USA". How strange.

I can't read the ID on the Jeep's bumper. Maybe you can on your original.
