For you what is the strongest image of the landing?

Yes, falling asleep anywhere in any position is one of those things that all fighting men have in common no matter where or when they are from.
As for the other picture, yes, it does seem to encapsulate the whole engineer reason for being very well. Incidentally, the quad .50 is one bad motor scooter!

This is a photo I got from another Intel guy. I think it is one of the most poignant photos I have ever looked at. Looking closely, you can almost feel the fear and dread as these women approach the spot where 14 of their townspeople were slaughtered by the Krauts for the shooting of another Kraut that they "believed" was done by someone in this town.
Fourteen (14) men and boys were randomly chosen and subsequently executed. As I now recall there was only 600 to 700 people in the town

Was just picturing how I'd feel, for we live in a small town of 600 people. To imagine something like that could happen here. It would be hard to conceive.

imagine what it must've meant to the people to see our guys (3rd infantry div supported by the 36th and 45th) and to be free at last. Notice roadside shrine to right in photo - the juxtaposition of the "welcome to our liberators" sign and the crucifix remind us that the sacrifices made for the freedom of others were great indeed.
