Stand where they fought tour - The Battle in the Vosges 1944
#41

Relics:

Here some Relics as found during my trip:

- a big part of a P-47 Belly tank

- a round of a M-1 Garand

- part of a US mortar shell

I hope this story of a not well known battle was of interest for you as the Battle in the Vosges was a different kind of War!

Seems as though I heard about the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. I think they

went into combat in Italy, attached to the 34th Inf. Divn. Their Motto was----

--TO HELL AND BACK-- And they had the " RED BULL" shoulder patch. Rocky

I read this in a book titled, "Dogfaces Who Smiled Through Tears"""

About the casaulties, there is a mistake. In fact the number of casualties for the 442 is :

October 1944 :

117 KIA 16 to 31 october,

639 WIA 16 to 31 october,

18 Injured in Action 16 to 31 october,

40 MIA 16 to 31 october

Total : 814

During the lost bn rescue

52 KIA during 26 to 31 october,

268 WIA during 26 to 31 october

November 1944 :

44 KIA

217 WIA

8 Injured in Action

3 MIA

Total 272.

Have a nice day,

More later,

Wow, where the heck have I been?? I missed this entire well-done post by Juerg. Merci, and merci to Gerome for his assistance.

I just started reading through this whole story line and find it fascinating. Like all the accompanying photos too.

GREAT JOB. I apologize for not seeing it sooner. Well at least I have somewhat of an excuse, for it was posted on my birthday. :occasion16: But I still don't know how it escaped me until now...
