I just had a great idea. If only I had Ted Turner's money I would start "The World War II Movie Channel", sort of like Turner Classic movies! I wonder how it would be received?

Well here's the first vote. There are millions of WWII efficiandos out there. I think it would be quite popular!

Saw an interesting old movie yesterday which starred the great Paul Muni as a Russian paratrooper. It was titled "Counter Attack" (1945) and the story was about Muni and his female-soldier companion finding themselves trapped underground with 8 German prisoners after a factory cave-in following an artillary barrage. The Russian must attempt to stay awake for several days and also attempt to get secret info from the Nazi officer, which results in a psychological battle of wits between the two men. To add to the suspense...neither man knows which side's army will be the one to rescue them! Has anybody else seen this movie? I loved it.

Strangely the one of the
most accurate WW2 movies,
was a Hollywood production.

Battleground may be one of the finest movies of all on WW2. The used a lot of the Bulge vets for extras and there is a scene in the beggining where they are in camp and the building that is headquarters (Some where on the back lot at the studio) Actualy looks a lot like the real one in Mourmelon where the 101st was stationed after Holland!
Looks like someone in set design was a vet of the BOB

In 3 days we can watch All Quiet on the Western Front with Richard Thomas the movie is from 1979, I saw it over 10 years ago for the first time and I was realy quiet and affected after the end of the movie.
I think it's one of the best movie's about WWI.
Another very good one about WWI is The lost Battalion it's about an American Battalion but see for yourself at the links.

Was sharing this post with my hubby tonight and we agree with all. I have already made my comments about Battleground and Lee agrees.
Rennog, your remarks regarding the remake of All Quiet on the Western Front are right on the money. Very, very well done and really brings one into the movie and gives the feel of the innocence going into the war and then the realization of being there for months on end in the trenches. They did a great job on the remake! One of the top notch movies on WWI.
