I saw this on the Guardian today - very cool:

http://www.theguardi...now-interactive

And as a special bonus for this post only. . .

http://ingeb.org/Lieder/am6juniu.html

. . . .

1944

. . . .

Und Goebbels brüllt ins Mikrofon:

"Wo bleibt Eure Invasion?"

Am 6. Juni um Mitternacht, [On June the 6th the thunder crashed,]

Da hat's geblitzt, da hat's gekracht [in dead of night the lightening flashed,]

Und alle Leute wußten's schon: [And everyone knew right away,]

Zip, zip, di dudela, die Invasion. [it's the invasion that has come today.]

Lastensegler, Fallschirmspringer [The cargo glider, parachute,]

Und noch and're schöne Dinger [And other things were just as cute,]

- Bombenteppich monoton: [- Carpetbombing night and day,]

Zip, zip, di dudela, die Invasion. [it's the invasion that has come today.]

Und auf dem Festland ist man drauf

Und nach Berlin geht jetzt der Lauf.

Berliner Luden hotten schon:

Zip, zip, di dudela, die Invasion.

Offiziere, Helferinnen [While officers their female aide,]

Wälzen sich in weißen Linnen, [between the linen sheets invade,]

Plötzlich ging das Telephon, [The phone rings, forcing a delay:]

Zip, zip, di dudela, die Invasion. [it's the invasion that has come today.]

Die Hitlerjugend, groß und klein,

Die mußten in den Volkssturm rein,

. . . .

Soll das die Vergeltung sein?

Ah, read the poem in English (Here's the Google translation)

And Goebbels roars into the microphone:

"Where is your invasion?"

On June 6, at midnight, on June the 6th the thunder crashed,

Since it has flashed, as it was a crash in the dead of night lightening flashed,

And all the people knew it already: And everyone knew right away,

Zip, zip, di dudela the invasion. It's the invasion did has come today.

Gliders, parachutists The cargo glider, parachute,

And yet and're beautiful things And other things were just as cute,

- Carpet Bombing monotone: - Carpetbombing night and day,

Zip, zip, di dudela the invasion. It's the invasion did has come today.

And on the mainland is one it

And now goes to Berlin run.

Berlin Luden hotten already:

Zip, zip, di dudela the invasion.

Officers, assistants While officers Their female aide,

Wallowing in white linen, linen Between the sheets invade,

Suddenly the phone went, The phone rings, forcing a delay:

Zip, zip, di dudela the invasion. It's the invasion did has come today.

The Hitler Youth, large and small,

They had to rein in the Volkssturm,

. . . .

Is that the retaliation?

I really don't have to say a lot because everyone here on this site, knows the importance of this day and all the men who fought in this campaign of the war. Let's simply remember their everlasting sacrifice and pay homage to all those who died there, and all those who lived and kept the fight going to the end. God bless all of you.
