While once again sorting through my NARA docs, I ran across something that caught my eye while filing. This is an excerpt taken from the 540th's journal report at the port of Licata, Sicily, dated Monday, 12 July, 1943.

Events: Private Hirma Travis, Co. "E" 540th Engineer Regiment willfully refused to carry out official lawful orders, threatened company and personnel with hand grenade and was fatally wounded by Lt. Charles E. Robinson at approximately 2315B. Capt. John C. O'Brien appointed investigating officer -- s/o # 18 HQ 2nd Bn., 540theEngr. Regt 13 July 1943.

  Bridges in Germany
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 03-05-2007, 12:19 AM - Forum: WWII ENGINEERS - No Replies

I sent the following PDF file to my friend Karl in Germany. Karl and many others are doing research and are also reenactors. He has quite a collection.

Karl is very interested in the bridges that the 540th built, and as I find docs and photos, I am very happy to share them with him.

Here are the latest which were amognst the NARA docs I went through today. Notice how sharp the photos are and these are from PHOTOCOPIES. I feel very lucky to have them.
