Fisher House Program For Our Military & families
Posted by: arve - 11-03-2008, 01:35 PM - Forum: ALL Vets News - Replies (2)

Don't know how many people are aware of the wonderful work of the Fisher Foundation.

They build homes on the grounds of VA & Military medical centers so families can stay free of charge & be close to their loved ones while they are hospitalized.

They had a ground breaking ceremony on thursday for a new Fisher House at the VA Hospital here in West Roxbury Mass.

  Gurkha Justice Campaign
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 11-03-2008, 07:31 AM - Forum: ALL Vets News - No Replies

Sent to me by Moose:

Dear Friend,

Just a quick note to again thank you for your support and update you on the

Gurkha Justice Campaign -

http://www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

With over 80,000 signatures and rising, we are still getting thousands of new

supporters every day. We're still working to get the message out about the

campaign - last week Al Murray gave us a tremendous boost on his show Al

Murray's Happy Hour.

If you haven't already done so, PLEASE pass on our need for signatures to

everyone you know and ask them to do likewise. Please send it to your address

book. We really need this campaign to spread all across the country - like

wild-fire.

This week I'm pleased to say there will be adverts in the next few days in

a number of newspapers including the Daily Mail, Guardian and Telegraph

promoting the campaign.

We've had some great stories from supporters across the country, from

people collecting signatures at car boot sales and street stalls, to people

putting links on their web sites and telling all their friends - it is making

a

big difference. Thank you so much to all those who have written and emailed -

there are so many we simply can't reply to all of them personally, so please

forgive us. I PROMISE they are being read and appreciated.

The huge number of messages of support and offers of help have been fantastic,

but we still really need more help. If possible, can you can help us get the

message out in the following ways:

1. If you have a blog, web site, Facebook page or similar, please put a message

about www.gurkhajustice.org.uk encouraging people to sign the petition. You

could also post a message in any discussion forums you use online.

2. Print out the form at

http://www.gurkhajustice.org.uk/gurkha_cam...tition_form.pdf

and get friends and family to sign. Please make sure you return it to us by 16th November.

3. Pass the message to as many people as you can. Whether you forward this

email to your contact list,

give people a call, or write a letter to your local

paper to ask others to sign the petition at www.gurkhajustice.org.uk - we really

need your help.

A great example of one supporter promoting our site is a video we saw on

YouTube last week. We found it extremely moving. See what you think at

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MEPvmPdDzYc

Finally, a very special date for your diary - 20th November. There will be more

details soon, but we will be handing in the Gurkha Justice petition to Downing

Street on that day. Some special guests and I will be meeting in Parliament

Square at around 11am. Anyone who can come along to join us and show their

support for the Gurkhas campaign in person on that day will be most welcome.

With warmest good wishes,

Joanna

http://www.gurkhajustice.org.uk

PS. We've sold hundreds of Gurkha Justice t-shirts and sweatshirts at our

online shop

http://gurkhajustice.spreadshirt.net

Thank you to all those who have bought them - I hope you are wearing them with

as much pride as I do mine, and helping spread the message about the campaign.

  liberation of Biffontaine and Brouvelieures
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 11-03-2008, 07:22 AM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - No Replies

Hello my Friends,

I hope all is fine for you all.

Yesterday was a great day too. It was the commemoration of the liberation of the area of Biffontaine and Brouvelieures. There was a lot of V.I.P for this commomoration, at the place named 'La borne N°6' or if you want where to lost bn was. Biffontaine had the big honor to have the visit of two persons of Italia, they live at Monté Cassino. At Monté Cassino, there is a street named ' Street of Biffontaine'. In the photos I send you, you will see the commemoration in the forest de Champ, but also, the commemoration for a new monument, in the village of Biffontaine, near the Church. This wonderful monument is named 'The Prayer', against all the horror of the wars.

Among the V.I.P, there was :

M Cantal, Prefect of the area of Saint Dié,

M Cherpion, Deputy,

M Langlois, General consil of the area of Bruyeres,

M Henry, mayor of Biffontaine,

M Blangy, mayor of Bruyeres,

M Cavaness, of the american cemetery of Epinal,

M Bianchetti, who is the creator of this monument. (he is also the creator of the monument of the lost bn).

And other people and associations.

This monument is a great message of peace, and the commemoration was very moving.

You will find too, more photos and information in this wonderful website :

I wish you all a wonderful day,

and take care,

Gerome

507th Parachute Infantry Assoc 2008 Reunion
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 11-03-2008, 06:43 AM - Forum: VETERAN'S REUNIONS - No Replies

Subj: 507th Parachute Infantry Association 2008 Reunion - Update #1

Total attendance of this year's 507th Parachute Infantry Association Reunion

held at the Atlanta Airport Marriott Hotel exceeded 200 including forty

507th PIR World War II Veterans.

Attached are two PDF formatted documents which hopefully capture the essence

of the 5 day gathering of 507th PIR veterans, family and friends of the

regiment. The first attachment is a photo summary of events including:

- The film premiere of "Papa Said - We Should Never Forget"

- The Grand Opening of the 507th PIR Exhibit at the Museum of Aviation

- Award of the "Army Freedom Salute" to all 507th PIR WWII Veterans

- The Westminster Schools 5th grade student program: "Lest We Forget... A

Tribute in Song & Verse"

- The 2008 Reunion Banquet

- General shots of people enjoying each other's company

The second attachment was created from a website that carried the Macon

Telegraph Article regarding the veterans being the center of attention

during the 507th PIR Exhibit Grand Opening in the Museum of Aviation's new

World War II Hangar.

Hopefully, by the end of this week we will have completed loading of the

best of the photos shared by attendees. An UPDATE #2 email will be sent to

this distribution list with the website location and specifics for online

viewing, downloading and ordering of hardcopy prints, etc.

On behalf of the volunteer core reunion support team, we want to express a

special thanks to The Museum of Aviation, The Westminster Schools, 1st BN

(Airborne), 507th PIR at Ft. Benning, Maxine Schwartz (sculptress of

Geronimo and Ken Williams) and SaluteAmerica, Inc., whose support helped

made this year's reunion so very special.

We can't wait - Columbus / Ft. Benning in 2009...
