Oh goodie! Just received an advanced notice from Amazon.com regarding a new book release (love this feature).

Operation Dragoon 1944: France's other D-Day (Campaign) (Paperback)

by Steven Zaloga (Author), John White (Illustrator)

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/184603367...12246370_snp_dp

I already placed it in my "cart" and will buy it as soon as it's released later this month.

This will book will be placed next to my copy of Dragoon - The Other Invasion of France by Paul Gaujac

  297th Combat Engineer Reunion
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 06-12-2009, 07:11 AM - Forum: VETERAN'S REUNIONS - No Replies

Will have more on this later, but Mari just emailed me, and said the reunion was a success. They had 12 veterans and 80 family members and friends. Their biggest turn-out yet! What great news.

Here's a couple of photos of Mari and the boys!

First one: Cecie, Mari and Tony

Second one: Group photo with Hallie and Mari

206th Company MPs Who Died Salerno & Anzio
Posted by: arve - 06-11-2009, 02:39 PM - Forum: ANYTHING WWII - Replies (3)

My Dad surely knew both of these men from his MP Co.

T4 Daniel McCormick killed Nov 13, 1943 (probably in 5th army's struggle to the Gustav Line) and Cpl Glenn Sullivan at Anzio.

Posting this in response to Rocky's post - "where are the Anzio, Salerno, Cassino photos".

I agree & often wonder - if my Dad had lived longer - would we have talked about the war & would he have wanted to go back to see those places? I'm not sure, but maybe Anzio. I would have liked to go back there with him and wonder now if it would have been healing for him.

The American Battle Monuments site is searchable with photos of the cemeteries and also by unit#s - so you can find the names of men in your outfit who are buried there. As you will see - it also tells you exactly where they are buried.

this link should show the names of the 206th MP men, but ???

"I Maintain the Right" - 307th Eng Bn
Posted by: Walt's Daughter - 06-11-2009, 10:08 AM - Forum: WWII Books & Magazines - Replies (1)

Jumpmaster AJ, sent this to me in a PM, and thought I'd share this part because it relates to an engineer book.

How is your battle coming along with the CIB? This is issue is still a sore spot with Combat Engineers even today! We are always moving ahead of the Infantry to clear the way for them and fighting as Infantry. It was and is a sad injustice that a combat badge was not created specifically for Engineers if not the CIB. A good book about the 307th EN BN (ABN) shows just how many attacks/assaults were led by Engineers with no recognition for it. The book is called: "I Maintain the Right". Good book, but it could have been edited better.
