Though he isn't at war, my nephew is on a carrier here in the states and he just sent this to my brother-in-law a few days ago. This is what Andy had to say about the photo he sent:
Hey this is the bird my detachment built from the ground up throughout last
year. This is a pic of it landing on the Ike Eisenhower... love you, Andrew
My brother-in-law, Clifford Dirks was in the 540th Engineers, Company E, Second Batallion. He made several beach landings including Anzio. He passed away a few years ago and I'm trying to get more information about his military service. I have a story written by him describing a horific tale of being mistaken for a German spy and being sent to an American POW camp on the island of Corsica near the town of Ajaccio.
If anyone has any information about Private (later Corporal) Clifford Dirks please contact me.
Misha has started his WWII store in Belgrade and sent me some photos of his collectables. Hey Misha, give us a few words about your new venture and share more pics. I know everyone here would love to know more.
