Combined 36th/540th Engineer Reunion 2011

Recommended Posts

Well looks like we are ON again for the combined 36th/540th Combat Engineer's Reunion in Lebanon, PA, September 2011.

We were looking for new facilities, but due to cost, it looks as though we shall remain at the Quality Inn.

Quality Inn

625 Quentin Rd.

Lebanon, PA

17042-7088

Toll-Free: (800) 626-8242 or (717) 273-6771

Fax: (717) 273-4882

I believe the following information to be accurate. Note: There may be some minor changes in cost.

Make your reservations by September 1, 2011 to make sure you get a room. Let them know that you are part of the 36th/540th Reunion to get discounted rate! Hotel rooms are $62.00 per night and includes breakfast.

Thursday- Sunday, September 22nd to 25th, 2011

The Colony Room (our hospitality suite) is available to us for all four days. Snacks will be provided, along with beer and wine.

We usually plan a nice dinner out at a local restaurant on Friday night. If you are interested, let John or I know ahead of time so we can include you in the reservations. If not, the Colony Room will be open for your use.

There will be a banquet Saturday evening. This is a semi-formal affair.

DVD presentations by YOURS TRULY will be shown throughout the weekend.

Bring your photos, books, documents, etc. We have a LOT of fun reminiscing!

------------------------------------

PLEASE MAIL $40.00 (per person) to JOHN FALLON to cover dinner and hospitality suite goodies before September 1, 2011. Let him know how many will be attending along with names, so he can prepare your name tags. Send check or money order to:

Okay, I am expecting some new folks to show up this year. If at all possible, plan ahead and make sure you attend this year. Without sounding morbid, time is running out.

Don't let this be a regret. Trust me, you will never forget this experience and will be so happy you made it.

Well if you start walking now... :zelda:

Hey now, I EXPECT you to be there this year. The only excuse I will take is if you are overseas. :wave2:

Now if you want, I can talk to your commanding officer... :icon_pray:

It just occurred to me, I should be going to the Advanced Communications Officer Course in Quantico, VA from 15 August through 28 October. That's only 3 h 45 m away from Lebanon!!

He's been in command for since 2008 according to his bio (click here for the Fort Hood site). Will he be moving on this summer? In the USMC commands are generally no more than 3 years.

I haven't heard anything yet, but I am sure we will find out at the reunion. I remember being in touch with his predecessor before Col Savre took reign a few years ago.

Instead of flying in this year, am taking Amtrak. A nice slow, leisurely way to travel. Lots of room to relax, and food on board. I am looking forward to this. Plus, the entire round trip cost about $175.00 dollars. The plane trip would have been three times as much, with a lot more hassle.

This morning I received Capt Fallon's letter concerning the 2011 Reunion. I feel very privileged to be included as a friend of the 36th/540th and look forward again to meeting everyone at the Quality Inn, PA in September. I am at present researching in depth the building of the 'Bridge in the sky' on the northern coast road in Sicily in 1943. I hope to have some material to show and discuss with those present.

Reunion just keeps getting better all the time...

The 36th Brigade has just changed command and Colonel Dave Hill will take over from Col Kent Savre. Colonel Hill has scheduled a visit with all of us and will attend Friday and Saturday. How wonderful. So if all goes well, both Col Savre and Hill will attend.

Even more news this morning.

Craig Singhaus was the one who arranged to have some re-enactors at last year's reunion. Unfortunately due to his scheduling, he wasn't able to attend himself. However this year, he will be able to join us and not only is he going to be there, but he is looking into arranging a parade through the streets of Lebanon with an array of jeeps, etc.

I talked to Captain John Fallon about this and his enthusiastic response was, "Let's let it all hang out!"

:1028: :1028: :1028: :1028: :1028: :1028:

The tentative plan is to have the parade begin at the hotel Saturday morning at approximately 10. He is going to call the Chamber of Commerce and possibly a local boy scout troop and alert a local newspaper, so we can have people lined up with flags to see the parade of vets and their families.

I told him there was a veteran's park just a block away, and we thought it would be nice to have the vehicles debark there and have a brief ceremony. Sounds great to me.

As you can imagine, I am very, very excited about the prospects! Thanks Craig!!!
