Care Giver for my wife of 58+ years.

Age and duties caused us to move to an Assisted Living Facility. That went down the drain after a couple of months and the Dr. said "take her home that is where she wants to go and will die"!!

Thought I'd never have to say "Quit" about my wife but my own medical problems made me admit this "YOU NEED HELP ASAP" and so I got it.!!!! All I could do was watch her get closer to death every day and I was handcuffed!!

At 18 I enlisted, took Basic Training, went to the ETO,had a wicked bad fight with the Krauts, they lost and gave up so I came back to the USA and left the Army, went to College got married and had kids.

  1. You were great Marion - :clappin: :clappin: Called in andsaid you were loud and clear on the East Coast - Hop they told you I called
  2. Marion:- Have been absent for some time due to a rather long hospital period which was followed by an equally long "rehab" time. Told the medical people "quit" is not in my vocabulary. Dr. was about to call me a Priest but I told him "I WILL WALK OUT OF HERE". Did just that yesterday and am now safely located at my home. Look forward to catching up with all!!!! TopSgt/Sgtleo

    The Skadi Forum

"Skadi Forum : Discussion Board for Germanics." I was doing some research the other day trying to help someone with their father's WW II service when I ran across the Skadi Forum. I had heard about it but was not aware that it is growing and is so wide spread across the world. Those that are interested in what might happen in the future should follow it's course. What really frosted me was that the practically were deifying Joachim Peiper SS-Standartenführer the officer in charge at The Malmedy massacre and other murders. Read their philosophy about Malmedy and the excuses for that massacre sickened me. I remember all too well how often this was offered as an excuse for being a Nazi and having taken part in atrocities. Working as an interpreter/interrogator post war the standard response we were given ad nausea was "I was only following orders etc". This site switches the burden of the Malmedy massacre from Peipers group to the GIs they killed. Many of the participants insist that the GIs they killed caused their own deaths and the shooters were only doing their duty. I would love to have some of you that have served or put practically your whole life into helping the service prople will read and comment. I'm not sure this quote is accurate but as I recall it "It is said that those who ignore history are bound to repeat it"
  4. We were in the staging area in Arles, France, outside Marseille, JULY '45 scheduled to go to the Pacific Theater when they dropped they dropped "Little Boy" on Hiroshima and "Fat Man" on Nagasaki and we were then taken off the shipment list and returned to Germany for occupation duty. More than a few months later(about 8), I was no longer classified as "essential" so I was transferred to a Medium Automotive Maintenance Co. as their 1st. Sgt. Talk about a fish out of water. They wanted for some reason (who knows - typical Army rationale) to send this unit complete and they needed a 1st Sgt and I was eligible to go home. Co. CO was a good guy so he said "I'll tell you what we need and all you have to do is do it". Paper work like morning reports, sick call etc. I knew the routine. After we were processed in the Arles Staging area, yup (again typical Army they sent me back there!). We were loaded onto a Liberty Ship that was a class A rust bucket which since I am very familiar with ships (lived in a Port City) I was not a happy camper. If I had my choice, I wouldn't have even taken a harbor cruise on this ship!!! I knew some of the Liberty ships were made in on e week as they were almost prefabricated - parts were just welded together. The Troop Commander was a newbie so he grabbed me me and told me I was going, along with 2 other Tops to be his staff. He had all the troops loaded and that went well until we 3 Tops asked where are we going to be quartered. When he said "I never thought of that" I knew we were in trouble. Luckily he solved the problem by having the Ship's Captain agree to let us use their Sick Bay. Compared to what the other GIs had this was pure luxury and we got to eat with the crew who took good care of us. Above is the type ship we were on for ELEVEN (11) Days and believe me there were a lot of seasick GIs. We(the 3 Tops) had a daily inspection with the Troop Commander and the guys in the bow of the ship were threatened they would be sealed off if they didn't clean up their area. Nine out of ten of them were up-chucking etc. and not getting to the latrines so it smelled to high heaven and desperately needed a GI cleaning which we had to oversee. Glad I was brought up around boats etc. as the shake rattle and roll of the ship didn't phase me(see example above). What really ticked me off was that upon arrival at the port of New York we had to wait while they unloaded the ship before they let us debark. Even the garbage beat us off the ship. Once off, we were sent to Fort Dix New Jersey for out-processing and believe me that was another complete fiasco. SgtLeo

    Airport Scanners

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body scanners at the airports. Have a booth that you can step into that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device you may have on you! It would be a win-win for everyone - there would be none of this crap about racial profiling and would eliminate a long and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift. Case Closed! This is so simple that it's brilliant. I can see it now: you're in the airport terminal and you hear a muffled explosion. Shortly thereafter an announcement comes over the PA system, "Attention standby passengers we now have a seat available on flight number..." Perfect!!!! Top/Sgtleo

  8. THE WISE OLD INDIAN AND THE TWO WOLVES:- 'This may be the best way I have ever heard it explained!' The Two Wolves------------------------- One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two 'wolves' inside us all. One is Evil.------- It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is Good-------. It is joy, peace , love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith. The grandson thought about it for a minute. And then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?' The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed .' Top/Sgtleo
  9. Emergency Weather Bulletin This text is from a county emergency manager out in the western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan after a severe snow storm ... The Mining Journal,Marquette, MI WEATHER BULLETIN Up here in the Northern part of Michigan we just recovered from a Historic event --- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands. FYI: Obama did not come. FEMA did nothing. No one howled for the government. No one blamed the government. No one even uttered an expletive on TV. Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit. Our Mayor's did not blame Obama or anyone else. Our Governor did not blame Obama or anyone else either. CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or even report on this category 5 snow storm. Nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards. No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House. No one looted. Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something. Nobody expected the government to do anything either. No Larry King, No Bill O'Rielly, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera. No Shaun Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Brad Pitts, No Hollywood types to be found. Nope, we just melted the snow for water. Sent out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars. The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny. Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families.. Families took in the stranded people - total strangers. We fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns. We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die". We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks. Even though a Category 5 blizzard of this scale is not usual, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves. I hope this gets passed on. Maybe ......SOME people will get the message ............The world does Not owe you a living. Top/SgtLeo
