You can also look at the Invision's provided HELP section on this forum:

You may want to change your browser, at least temporarily and see if that works. Browser's can be the culprits on many forums.

Yes, that was my thought since your site is quite popular! I did look at it on archive.org but a lot of images and misc items were missing or I could have just copied it from there.

BTW, I am doing that for a veteran who passed away years ago. I created a website for him and promised that I would keep it up and running after he passed. I am pleased to say it's still going as a tribute to a great guy and his WWII unit.

Thanks Jean. I did consider it. Still tossing around the idea. Last time I acquired a few private sponsors - veterans and their families and a few other donations from readers, which helped me out a great deal.

I will keep your suggestions in mind.

Donald Burgett of the 101st, just had a Kickstarter funding campaign, and was able to raise a few thousand bucks. He is now able to go back to Europe this year, which is great. But I seriously doubt I could get up the kind of money, for he is a famous WWII author and I am not. Just trying to be realistic. I will have to put my thinking cap on. :pdt12:

While the 408k road race benefitting the Pat Tillman Foundation was winding its way through a San Jose neighborhood, runners saw 95-year-old World War II veteran Joe Bell watching the event while dressed in full uniform. That’s when a number of competitors made a beeline for the veteran to offer their thanks, making for an impromptu receiving line.
The touching scene was captured by Julia Prodis Sulek of the San Jose Mercury News.

For archival purposes here are some more 285th documents. These pertain to when Patton talked about the two untested engineers in his book "The War as I Knew it". They were attached to the 2nd Cav were essentially a battalion of engineers were used as infantry to cover what was once covered by a regiment!

It seems that there is some Camp Twenty Grand footage on there as well. When the guys are butchering a pig:
This was a tent camp on a high bluff overlooking the Seine River. Under proper conditions this would have been an ideal spot, but these were not ideal conditions. It was a case of work to cut wood to keep from freezing, so it became necessary for every man to grab an axe and head for the woods. The food situation was a little on the sparse side. Here too, some of the more rugged characters took to the woods, organized hunting parties and came back rewarded on occasions with the carcass of a wild hog to crown their efforts. Guard duty, that constant Army torture, was another chore that demanded a full share of attention. On 17 January 1945, after having spent one week of the coldest, roughest day imaginable, we took our leave of Camp Twenty Grand and France for the time being.

Yeah, this was a pleasant surprise to get a copy of it and then for it to have so many stops included. The Marine Raven footage as well as England and Luxembourg were a huge surprise to see. Good stuff.

Very cool! Training videos can be very entertaining! Can't wait to watch the whole thing.

When I did the first part of my documentary, chapter one was dedicating to training, so got to browse through a lot of footage.

No I hadn't noticed and yes, sometimes my fingers DO hurt. Been hitting the trails lately, if you've noticed. I had been a bit remiss in cool postings and think I have made up for it in the last few weeks.

Thanks for noticing buddy. You always make my day!!!

mikel reacted to Walt's Daughter in Johnny Thompson - 341st Engineer and Nascar driver!
A couple of months ago, I received a great phone call from Johnny Thompson, a WWII 341st engineer. Since then we've chatted a couple of times and he sent me a package with the following materials. Johnny also informed me that he used to be a Nascar driver, so being a fan, it naturally peeked my interest too.

I really enjoyed his keen sense of humor and even after all these years, he still retains his fighting spirit. God bless ya Johnny and thanks for getting in touch with me.

Hey y'all! I hope that everyone is doing well! I just wanted to update this thread to include the fact that the 284th now has a Facebook page! I'm telling their story from activation through the end of the war with various little tidbits thrown in for fun.

Actually, I hoped on here to post in the 284th section about how I've made a Facebook page for the unit and I'm telling their story there and using my website more as an archive that has a lot more details. It has been very successful. You may wish to consider that route?
