    285th Engineers

If you do some "googling" on the 285th his photo does show up so that might be where you've seen it!

    285th Engineers

One of his buddies from the 285th told me that William was a NYC Firefighter and also quite involved with the 285th's reunions so maybe one of those things is where you may know him from?

  7. Hi! I'm delighted to report that I just got back from the 284th's reunion and it was wonderful. We had a few surprise vistors and a lot of good food and conversation. 360th Engr. Regt.

Has anyone stumbled across any information about this unit? Some of the 284th was moved to them after the war. It appears that they specifically went to the 2nd Bn.
  10. Hi all, I have a little bit of 125th information. I just wrapped up a book about the 284th and in their travels they did some work with the 125th. The following is from the official After Action Reports of the 284th: 24 April 1945 C Company of the 284th Engr. C. Bn. put in place a treadway bridge across the Altmuhl River in Belingries with the assistance of the 125th Engineers. Early on the morning of the 24th Lt. Col. Morrison of the 125th Engineers was seriously injured when his vehicle hit a mine. Captain O'Neil, S3 of that outfit, took command.

    284th - Silent Heroes

Hi Jean, Thank you so much for your kind words and for purchasing the book! It means a lot to know that their history is available and that people are really interested in it! Their reunion is only a few weeks away so I'm excited to bring them all copies of it. Mikel

    284th - Silent Heroes

Thank you for posting the link about the book that I put together with the help of the veterans of the 284th Engr. C. Bn. It starts at basic training and goes all the way through the end of the war. It is full of photos, maps, official reports and personal accounts. The guys left most of the combat details out of it though, those details were things they wanted to leave in the past. There is also a paperback version available as well: https://www.createspace.com/4992551

    250th Engineer Combat Bn

Good luck and let me know if you find anything really interesting, well they're all interesting but you know what I mean. I've been finding a lot of letters on ebay lately as well. The trick was to know what APO box to search for. I've even found some from my dad's buddy that he was always with during the war. It is amazing what turns up on ebay......

    250th Engineer Combat Bn

I always check ebay for 284th "stuff" and I see that someone is selling a bunch of 250th photos. Some are named, some are not but I thought that I'd mention it just in case anyone is interested!
  15. Sorry I didn't have any luck with the other two names.
  16. James V. Stowell Jr. shows as entering service from Monroe, NY and I see he lived in Elmira for a while. Those are places to start looking for him or his family.
  17. Wow, that's amazing stuff!

    316th Engineer Combat Battalion

It is a shame that Ancestry is so expensive. It seems to me if they lowered their prices a bit they'd have a lot more users. I will say that it has been a vital tool in my research on the 284th....but yeah I can only swing another month or two of it and then I'm going to have to let it go for a while...

    285th Engineers

Greetings from Luxembourg! I was given a whole packet of information about the 285th today! I need to scan it but I will post it as soon as I can once I return to the US! I also visited the grave of John W. Daspit. He is buried very close to General Patton! Talk soon. Mikel
  23. These are great! Thank you so much for sharing and you will really make someone's day when they start researching the unit and stumble across these! Too many great photos are stuck in boxes in attics somewhere.

Has anyone stumbled across any information about this unit? Some of the 284th was moved to them after the war to work on pipelines and other various tasks.
