344th Photos

I can't post these in the Photo Gallery, for they are PDF files, but thought I would share them here with you:

Hello to all:

I copied and scanned these photos from one of the albums.

Please let me know if the pictures are readable.

I will be sending about 8 separate emails (attachment size-don’t know if that is an issue).

Regards,

Jim

Hi Marion:

Dad's name is: John Beaudry.

I have an interview that one of my sons had performed as a class project just days before he passed. I will scan and send to you in the next few days. It was interesting to me to find out things he never talked about ever before the time of the interview. This will give you more of a background of him.

Just recently found a newspaper from Knoxville Tenn. about his unit in 1941. It had his picture in a jeep (with 3 other guys) and also sitting around a table. The article was continued on page 4 (which I did not have). Contacted the newspaper recently to see if they have an archives to get a copy. It will be interesting to see what becomes of it! I also forgot to mention that we we fortunate to be able to take Dad to the WWII monument dedication in Washington DC. We had the local newspaper interview him in DC during the dedication. That trip was one of the highlights of my life! I sure miss him so much.

Well enough rambling!!

Thanks again for all your efforts for your wonderful website.

Regards,

Jim

These will wind up in the gallery, but for now...

I have more material, but cannot at the moment find it. I suspect my brother has map and other pictures, though he denies it. Bad memory. :)

Two attachments here--one a page with a picture of my father, Charles F. Lewis, then a major, and two of the lieutenants in Jan 1943. Their names are included in his handwriting. Also his army ID from Sept. 1945 after he'd been promoted to Lt. Col. The Word doc is a transcription of the Stars and Stripes article about the Rhone bridge at Lyon. Somewhere here I have a couple of clippings about the bridge w/pictures and I think I have a better copy of the article, but haven't unearthed those yet.

Sorry I seem so disorganized but I'm a genealogist. I have boxes and boxes of material on many families dating back to the 1600s! I tried the "Lewis" box but doesn't seem to be where I put that material! Will keep looking~

Might as well add this right here, because Karen also placed some info on the 344th from a Stars and Stripe issue. I've converted her file into a PDF.

Janet reminded me that not all of you can open the latest version of Word, so I'm attaching the bridge article in an older version.

Hi, Marion,

I'm still getting together the images for you from my dad's scrapbook of the 344th Engineers. Meanwhile, I also have a collection of 344th photos compiled by one Carl G. Long of Oneida, N.Y., and photocopied for unit members, including my dad. Attached is a scan from the Long photos. Is this an appropriate size for your use in posting on the 6th Corps website. If it is, I'll scan the other pages at the same size and put them on a disk and send them to you.
