Staff Sergeant Antonio Rotondo - 48th CE
#1

I received this today and forwarded it to Al Kincer of the 48th. I think we will be able to help someone have an extra special honeymoon in Italy. :pdt34:

I'm trying to find out information on the unit with which my Uncle Tony proudly served. I believe his unit may have been the 48th Combat Engineers. I know he served in Italy in 1943 and 1944. His unit was at Monte Cassino. His name is Staff Sergeant Antonio Rotondo and I know he was awarded the Bronze Star. He recently passed away. With regret I must say I never got the full details of his service. I am hoping you may have some information on where and what his unit may have done. I am going to Italy in June for my honeymoon and want to very badly retrace where he may have served. Any information you can provide me with will be greatly appreciated. I stumbled onto your website and found it to be very enlightening. Thank-you in advance for your time and help. My name is David Cercena, I'm a firefighter from Yonkers, New York...

Respectfully,

David

Al sent this to David and to this other 48th contacts...

David: Welcome to the 48th Engineer family. I find S/Sgt Antonio Rotondo is listed in WE The 48th as a holder of the Bronze Star & his home address was 191 New Bedford Road, Mt Kisco, NY.. I commanded Co. B, he was not in my company. Bill Munson commanded Co. A & Olen McKnight was a Staff Sgt. in A Co. Max Jonah was in C Co. for a short time. Perhaps one of these fellows might help. I will send you a drawing of the Cassino area soonest. Any other questions I will try to answer. AL Kincer
