Iron Mike, the "real"

The famous statue of the bridge replica is "Fière" that since 1950 installed at the entrance to Fort Bragg, home of the 82 AB. This is Lieutenant General Robert F. Sink (yes the same) who asked the sculptor Leah Hiebert to make this work more than 4 meters bronze representing a parachutist in uniform M42 . The artist went to work and used to model the Sergeant Major Mike Runyon, a veteran of Normandy in the 501 PIR ..

Great photos Vee and a beautiful memorial. I wonder, did GIs ever secure their helmet straps in WWII? Or is

that a 'Hollywood' impression I got. I hope that's not disrespectful.
