Rocky:-

Camos were worn only by the Krauts as far as I saw. Mostly Snipers

Finished Boots???? Not in our unit. Would be like shining a sneaker)LOL)

We had the unfinished leather. Only thing you put on them was waterproof

goo that didn't work worth a dam,

Thanks Rocky and Sgt. Leo. I know that the krauts issued camo...even on their Zeltbahns, or shelter quarters. I am assuming now that there was not any camo issued to the US Army Infantryman in Europe...except for Sgt. Saunders helmet! :drinkin:

... there wasn't a gas mask to be found. Most of them became an ersatz mussette bag

The only award that was prominent was the CIB - Sgtleo :armata_PDT_37:

What are a musette bag and a CIB?

I can't believe I had to do this, especially after what I just got done posting less than 48 hours ago, but I had to remove a few posts in response to Mr.GSD's question above. :armata_PDT_19: At first I left the replies and gave my sad and angry retort, but after consulting with a dear friend who is also a member of our forum, I went back and YANKED the danged posts all together!

I am so disappointed in two of my very dear friends right now, and I went to bed very, very angry. I hope you will know why I yanked your posts, and will reflect upon it today without further comment from moi!

I sent a letter of apology to Mr.GSD and asked for his forgiveness. I wouldn't blame you if you didn't come back, but I hope you will. I have fought long and hard to make this site and this forum what it is, and I when I see replies like the ones I deleted, IT IS a reflection on ME.

So I am going back to bed because I couldn't sleep without saying what I had to say.

MRGSD, please accept my apologies. I am so sorry. :(

This is from Al Kincer

"The Mussette Bags were issued to officers in lieu of a back pack."

Take a look here to see what they are referring to Mr.GSD. :pdt34:

Please see My Dad's page for info on the CIB on the main site, and also check out our entire section on CIB's posted in the Engineer's section of the WWII forum.

Also to help you out in the future, use our great SEARCH features here on the forum (look at top of page), and also the one on our main page. Both work great and are super tools! :drinkin:
