Farewell Cecil Addy - 36th Combat Engineer
#2

Cecil's daughter, Debbie, contacted me and sent me her father's obituary.

Services for Cecil Elias Addy will be held today, at 10 a.m., at Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church with Revs. Johnny Mullinax, Tod Thompson, and Lin Chesney officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Milling Funeral Home of Union in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Addy, 88, of Decatur, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Addy was born on Aug. 4, 1922, in Newton County to Ervin and Emma Addy. He was a veteran of World War II, serving from Feb. 25, 1943 – Nov. 4, 1945. While in the service he participated in campaigns in Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Southern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. After returning home to Newton County, Mr. Addy began to farm and raise dairy cows. He was a true steward of the earth and loved working with his hands. Mr. Addy’s greatest loves were God and his family. He was a lifelong resident of Newton County and enjoyed hunting with his beagles, watching sports, and gardening.
