Christmas tunes during the war - Walt's Daughter - 12-08-2010

I've added some Christmas tunes to the Jukebox this year. Here's a few to start...

Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - Judy Garland

I'll Be Home For Christmas - Bing Crosby

White Christmas - Bing Crosby

Jingle Bells - Glenn Miller

Oh Come All Ye Faithful - Bing Crosby

Judy Garland singing 'Have yourself...'

Beautiful. Songwriter Hugh Martin made several changes to make the song more upbeat. For example, the lines "It may be your last / Next year we may all be living in the past" became "Let your heart be light / Next year all our troubles will be out of sight". Garland's version of the song, which was also released as a single by Decca Records, became popular among United States troops serving in World War II; her performance at the Hollywood Canteen brought many soldiers to tears.

I think that "White Christmas" and "I'll be Home for Christmas" are the two best Christmas songs (secular anyway) ever. Especially the Bing Crosby versions, of course.

I couldn't agree more. I play them and I get all choked up. It just evokes so much emotion. Here you go!
