Halftracks and the 1303rd Engineers - mick.wilson - 01-21-2010

Hi,

We run a UK based re-enactment group the 514th QM TC www.514th.co.uk

Apart from running our fleet of GMC CCKW trucks marked up as 514th, we also have a GMC compressor truck and two Halftracks that we would like to mark up as a US Engineer Unit of some sort, as our displays portray France late 1944 (The Red Ball Express). We would like to find an Engineering unit in France at this time and wearing the 3rd Army “A” patch (that the rest of us 514th wear), We are thinking of marking them up as 1303rd, what do you think?

Any photos or markings you could point us in would be very useful.

Mick, enjoyed chatting via email. Glad you posted here, as we have a lot of readers and many resources at our disposal. Good luck.

I think they might have something like "3A - 1303E C15" on their bumpers.

3A = Third Army

1303E = 1303rd Engineers

C = Charlie Company

15 = 15th vehicle in that company

No problem, Mick.

I think they were in the Battle of the Bulge, the Bastogne area if I remember correctly.

It gladdens my heart when I see the kind of correspondence shown above. This great site has a wealth of information held by its many vets and others who are striving to keep alive memories of WW2. I have a great deal of respect for the reenactors who give pleasure to many around this country (and the world). Maybe sometime in 2010 I'll meet some from the organisation mentioned above on one of my visits with my g/grandson (a big fan).

Mick, that was very cool. So glad you shared that with the group. I noticed the "Uncle Sam's" on the door.

Where did you find that vehicle? How many do you have in your possession right now? The storage area looked quite large. Is this a space you rent of does that belong to a member of your group? Lots of questions, huh? :pdt34:
