Frank Surek - 36th Engineer Regiment - Walt's Daughter - 03-28-2005

I got the following email today. She is looking for info on her uncle Frank Surek of the 36th Combat Engineers. I informed her that I would pass the info on to Captain John Fallon.

Hi - my uncle Frank Surek was with the 36th Engineer Regiment and died of wounds on Feb 17 in Anzio. I have his individual deceased personnel file and it says he was with Company C (not which Battalion). I was wondering if you ever came across his name? Thanks

Hi:

So glad that you wrote. Just got a chance to read your letter and was delighted to get it.

If your uncle Frank was with company C, then he was with 1st Battalion. A standard regiment is broken up into three battalions, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Then the battalions are broken into three companies each. 1st is A, B & C. 2nd is D, E & F. 3rd is G, H & I.

I will present his name to Captain John Fallon of the 36th. I will forward your email to him and see what we come up with.

I am planning on attending the 36th's Reunion this September. John and I have arranged for "my" 540ther's to attend too. I truly hope this can be a joint venture.

Would you be interested in adding your uncles' history, photos, docs, etc. to the site? Please let me know. I will post the information below on the forum in the hopes that someone will see the name and have some info to offer too.

If you would like to read about the up and coming reunion, click on the link below that takes you to our forum.

Best of luck to you and let me know if I can be of further assistance. I look forward to hearing from you again.

Warm regards,

my grandfather was in company "c" and was injured in anzio. Unfortunately my grandfather passed away a few years ago. is there any way of knowing who was in a squad with my grandfather? everything I have read about co. "c" was that they were mostly oriented with infantry. and I came across a casualty list for company "C" and the numbers were quite low. I will try and find that source again an post it.
