I am doing a bit of research for a friend who's father was in 1260 Combat Engineer Battalion which was attached to

Seventh Army. They moved from Seventh Army to Ninth Army in March 1945 and at wars end was at Dungelbeck, Germany.

I have searched Google, Yahoo etc..... and have been unable to find anything on this battalion. My friend has this information

from about a 15 page battalion newpaper that was put out at the time.

If anyone has any information or where I can find information on the 1260th please to let me know and

very nice web site.

 

I noticed several people on your forums wanting information on the 1260th Engineer Combat Battalion.

My Father was in A Company, 1260th ECB during WWll

 

I have a magazine/booklet (30 pages or so, 11" x14") that contains a detailed history of the 1260th

 

from when they formed Feb. 10, 1944 at Camp Pickett, Virginia and stops at "on 14 June, 1945 began the four day journey to Assembly Area Command at Rheims. And here our story ends as we sweat out our long journey home."

 

And then it stops. There is no trip home so I am thinking maybe it was printed in Germany, before they knew when they were coming home.

 

This booklet also has a 2 page map of their path through France and Germany ending at Dungelbeck,

There is also lists of all the names of the guys, company by company with group photos.

 

I would be glad to share this with anybody looking for information on the 1260th.

Here are the images

Were they associated with 28th ID at one time? I just ask because of the keystone emblem on the picture. The men of the "Bloody Bucket" were in northern France and so they would not have been obviously collocated as it looks like the 1260th landed in S. France.

Most of the battalion/regimental books were printed in Europe right after the war (this one was probably too), and were given to the men at that time. However, books like these may be still available through "hard-to-find" bookstores, etc. They are rare!

I will do a search this morning to see what I come up with.

I am looking for any and all information on the 1260th, and on my Uncle George Duncan McPhee (Tec 5, 1914-1963, Buffalo, NY). Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. I visited him a number of times in the Buffalo VA hospital with my Mother after the war's end. His wife and both of his children, and my Mother (his "Sis): have past and I don't want him forgotten! A copy of the magazine/book mentioned about the 1260th would be appreciated beyond words.
