This letter was sent to me and also to Armonde Casagrande, 343rd Engineer, and related others....

Greetings Dear Friends,

I just got my hands on a pile of letters that my Uncle George wrote to my mom during the war. I am going through them to try and establish a geographic time line as best I can.. The letters are in amazingly great shape and most can be read easily... Some that were written in pencil are fading but mostly readable...

Armonde, You may be familiar with the 343rd Christmas card attached - it was sent in 1943. He started out at Camp Claiborne Louisiana in the spring of 42. In most of the letters he wasn't able to say where he was but some were from North Africa, Italy and APO 887 (England) and APO 1083 which appears to be a camp in New Jersey? I find it quite interesting that the APO for most all of the letters is 464 which equates to the 344th Engineering Regiment - was it the same for both? His return is always Co, F 343 Engr's.

Anyway, if you can help shed some light on this for me I would appreciate.. I do know that he served under Gen Mark Clark for a time (I think that was Italy) then to Salerno and then apparently France as he makes reference to speaking French...

Hope you are all surviving the "change"... I'll keep my freedom, gun's and money --- others can have the change...

Blessings

Don Hereford
