Ya'll,

After much flailing around, the location and dates of the 2009 reunion have /*FINALLY*/ been determined! /*(Yay!)*/ Here are the specifics of it, which will have to hold you until you get the newsletter, hopefully later this month:

Dates: _September 4 (arrival) to 8 (Departure) -- four nights

Hotel:_ Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, 1857 Gettysburg Village Drive, Gettysburg, PA 17325

Reservations _number: (717) 337-9518 Ask for a room in the 157th Infantry Block.

Room rates_: $99 + tax/night for a single room with two queen beds; $109 + tax/night for a small suite (king bed and fold-out couch)

Airport:_ The best airport is in Harrisburg, PA, which is 31 miles from the hotel. Due to this distance, the Association will provide FREE transportation to and from the airport (more details in the newsletter). The hotel is located just outside Gettysburg (less than 2 miles), but the Association will have a couple of vans available for local transportation as needed. Immediately adjacent to the hotel is a large outlet mall (about 40 stores), and in the parking lot is a TGIF Restaurant.

We will have the usual hospitality room, which might be the location of the banquet.

There will be tours of the battlefield, the visitors' center and probably the Eisenhower Farm.

All necessary fees and charges (less your hotel rooms, which you need to arrange yourselves) such as the registration fee, the banquet and tours will be collected upon arrival.

OK?

OK. Now get to work, get organized, get reserved, and let others know about this.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND!!!!!

======================

Dear relatives and friends:

Recently returned from our 157th Regiment reunion which was held in Gettysburg PA. Our motor trip to and from the reunion was very relaxing and enjoyable. Thanks to my son and daughter. The reunion was one of the best I have attended. As usual, Hugh Foster did an excellent job in planning this reunion. The hotel services were just tops. For those that flew , transportation was supplied from the Harrisburg Airport to Gettysburg. I did not hear one gripe from anyone. One could not ask for a better banquet dinner at the Dobbin House. I had the opportunity to see my old buddies again and meet new folks. We visited the National Park Visitor Center and saw an excellent film about the Civil War and visited their museum. We then had lunch. After lunch, we were transported by bus to the Eisenhower Farm. The environment was just beautiful and relaxing. It appeared to me that the children of our 157th veterans and widows made up the biggest part of those in attendance. I might add, I had the help of two husky guys who helped me board the bus and wheel me around. The people were the greatest. All I can say I was very happy that I attended this reunion. What a feeling I had seeing my old friends after nine years. To me, it was the best reunion I attended.

I know you are wondering how many people were in attendance. I am not certain but we had approximately 80 to 100. Of that count, 27 or 29 were veterans and the remainder were widows and family members.

Next year, the reunion will be held in Ashville, North Carolina which is a beautiful place. I am hoping and be the good Lord willing, I will be there. Hope to see you.

Thanks Hugh. You did a great job.

Best wishes to all,

Al Panebianco
