Just looked through section 1. So glad you included that here. :armata_PDT_37: An amazing feat; getting the fuel to the vehicles to keep the armies moving. When you think of all the logistics behind an army, it's mind-boggling. Once more, an great engineering accomplishment during the war.

The pipeline companies were accomplishing their mission. By the spring of 1945, “The daily gasoline consumption of the (United States) Seventh Army … exceeded 600,000 gallons, and that of the French First Army only slightly less. Nevertheless, shipments of gasoline matched these expenditures and maintained adequate reserves in both armies at all times.â€

It sure is, just think of the planning involved in any of the amphibious assault landings in the Med & Europe. What troops to load on on which transport? Which vehicles go on each LST & how to "Combat Load" it so the equipment & supplies needed first in the assault come off the LST first? How did they get the troops & vehicles from their training or bivouac areas, sometimes hundred of miles away, to the correct ship at the right time? and to insure the smooth flow of followup troops & supplies to the front lines? It was definitely an awesome task. It took a lot of cooperation between the Navy, Army Transportation Corp & Traffic control HQ and carried out by the Military Police.

Here is a video of how they did it during the Normandy invasion:

Traffic Control in the Normandy Invasion

That was very informative. I'm glad I took the time to watch that. Interesting from beginning to end. Hats off to all the planners and planning that went into every invasion and every battle. Goes to show how important all the men and women were BEHIND the scenes.
