Received this just now. My condolences to the family of Vince. I am glad I got to know him and the rest of the family. If anyone hasn't read his story yet, take the time now to do so. He now joins the rest of his engineering family in heaven.

My name is Catherine Brooks and I am a friend of the Leckey Family.

I used to work with Vince at Westfield Realty from 1989 to 1998.

Cory and Robin, his sons, were also friends of mine.

I regret to inform you Vince passed away this morning.

Vince passed away this morning , in ambulance, on way to Mount Vernon

(Alexandria) Virginia Hospital. Vince had been in poor health in recent

years, and friends told me he was being taken care of at home.

I found out about Vince from a co-worker of Cory's.

Condolence and Sympathy cards to the Leckey Family:

c/o CORY M. LECKEY

8709 Millbrook Place, Mount Vernon, VA 22309

Take care. Vince will be greatly missed.

He had the poster of the Army Corps of Engineers in his office. He was most

proud of his Army achievements. Vince used to "harrass" me 'cuz I am a Marine

brat (daughter of a Lt. Colonel Marine Pilot).

Please mention him on your website.

Thank you!

I sent a card to the family this afternoon from all of us at VI Corps Combat Engineers.

Another hero has left us.

Brooke

Ah Brooke, I think I have mailed more sympathy cards in the last year than I have in my entire life. Sometimes it really weighs on my soul! :(

Added the obit from the Washington Post

Marion's note: A few people inquired about the poster that is mentioned in the obit called, "Combat Engineer". I'm sorry to say that the obit is in error, and it should read, "We Clear the Way". That was the actual name of the rendition created by the artist in the 1940s.

My deepest sympathies to the family. May he rest in peace!

If anyone is interested, you can still get copies of the poster, We Clear the Way on this site:

Vince signed my copy last year and I have it in my office. So glad that I got it when I did.
