I second that. Good post. I read the Patton part out loud to hubby and he remembered that famous quote! :drinkin:

Hi Mare,

Wasn't the name of the city changed to Palermo in the movie when he made the comment about giving it back? I can't remember.

PS- DVD about D-Day is headin' your way

Dogdaddy:-

Did you know that there are at least two(2) versions of the movie Patton.

The first one showed the "accident" where the second one was edited to show

him riding off to his "Hunting trip" with his buddy. I have both editions compliments

of a grandson who is a Patton Buff.

Believe me it was the city of Trier in Germany not Palermo in Italy - boy do they take

liberties with history.

Sgtleo :banghead:

I always loved the scene in Messina

[as the British parade into Messina]

Field Marshal Sir Bernard Law Montgomery: Don't smirk Patton. I shan't kiss you.

Patton: Pity. 'cause I shaved very close this morning in preparation for getting smacked by you. :D

Marion:-

There was a strong anecdote about Patton and Montgomery who really did

not like each other. Wish I could say this is Gospel but I feel it has much merit.

Patton is supposed to have called Monty a Limey, Son of a B***H and when Ike

heard about he ordered Patton to formally apologize.

Scenario:- A SHAEF meeting with lots of brass and Patton walks in and Salutes,

Presents his Compliments and tells Monty that he is sorry that he called his a LIMEY.

Then executes an about face and leaves the room with the SOB part hanging in air.

Ike was said to almost have had apoplexy!!

Sgtleo; I had always thought that Patton was riding in a jeep and the jeep overturned on top of him. Where I heard that or when is the question. On another post about, Where were you on June 6, D Day. We had just broken through ANZIO and heading for the town velletri,

south and west of Rome. Didn't hear anything about Normandy cause we were kinda busy. Rocky

:machinegun::machinegun:

Rocky June 6th I was in a staging area getting ready to go to France.

The 79thID landed on Utah Beach June 14th 8 days later and headed

for Le Havre.

Didn't like those days at all,at all,Kauts had real bullets I could have been hurt

Sgtleo
