I truly hope I will hear from more of you, but as of late, it would appear even though we have OVER 700 members, we only hear from maybe a mere dozen? Maybe I'll conduct a poll tonight and find out why?
I realize that there will always be a certain minority who are more vocal, less shy, more computer literate, etc., etc., but where are the other 688? Just trying to get a feel for why things are heading in this direction. I know I'm not the only one who is asking this question, for a few people have written to me in private, some even feeling they may have offended someone, and THAT is why the numbers are dwindling?! I wrote to them and said, oh no, I don't think any of you have offended anyone. I don't think it is anything personal, because I have felt the same way. It just seems there are so many exciting things going on in our WWII community, but yet... I visit a few other forums, and they seem to have a lot more action. One in particular may find dozens of participants at any given time. It may be due to certain factors, but we wonder what those factors are? Anyway, I (we) are curious and would like to hear from you. And yes, I want to hear from those who faithfully post, but really want to hear from those who maybe have never posted, or it's been days, weeks or months since you have. Curiousity awakens.... -------------------- Marion J Chard

Well this morning I am NOT okay, for I just received very bad news; one of my dearest vets has passed away, and a mere few weeks before the documentary arrived at this house. Oh my heart is very heavy this morning. Just when I think I am done crying, it starts all over again. Wish you were here for a real hug, for I truly need one today.

Thanks and I will. I was just telling another friend, all I can hear is my narrative saying, "Wilbur Thomas Dickens of Tifton, Georgia, received news that his good friend Garland Anderson, had perished in that unprovoked attack..." That keeps repeating in my head, over and over and over again.

I received the dvd today Marion and will start watching it. I didn't expect it so soon. Thank you so much. Hang tough on this tragic loss, we are fortunate that you have documented him on your dvd. This is another example why we have to keep the memory alive. You did that on a wonderful way and now we can give him the credits he deserves, posthumously. May he rest in peace and thank you for your service Sir. Frank -------------------- We are paratroopers. We are supposed to be surrounded.

Yes, thank God his memories WILL live on, and not wind up taken with him, or dumped in a dumpster somewhere. All in the nick of time.

Just a comment, as of 4:55 today, we've had 77 clicks on this topic, and how many comments??? Hmmmm! Just curious what this tells us.
We REALLY would like to hear from the gang. Even if it's one sentence. I do realize that many are not what I call permanent members, they came for some info, found what they wanted, and really don't frequent this forum, or any others, for that matter. Some of our members have passed on, and some have simply lost touch, but I know there are still a lot of you out there. But it would also appear as though several of our hard-core members (those who are up on our who's who list) It would be nice to know, for it would give me some peace of mind. Thanks in advance... -------------------- Marion J Chard

Hello M1,
Every once in awhile I get an email from some forum that I forgot I ever even signed up for....I think it is just the nature of the beast, and nothing to worry over or feel bad about. With discussion groups for every subject under the sun these days I think people have taken a rather nomadic approach about them. There will always be a core group of folks that "find a home" like you alluded to in your post, while others drift away...some for awhile, some forever. Hugs, -------------------- Dogdaddy 1

The (cough) Research Department is looking into this issue. A committee of 1 will be tasked with writing a report to the VI Corp Combat Engineer Forum Group Headquarters that at this time will be classified as "Bottom of the Barrel Secret".

Hey Marion, I just wanted to say that I am continually pleased that the folks that administer our data network have not blocked this site. They have blocked almost all other blog sites, but since yours does not have "Forum" or "Blog" in the URL, it hasn't been noticed (like the WBG site). That means that whenever the daily grind of acquisitions gets too much, I can always pull up the site and see what is going on. It is the highlight of my work day because it certainly isn't work that is the highlight. Anyway, keep up the good work - hopefully more people will start to post.

Ah, you guys always allay my fears and make me feel better. I am thoroughly enjoying my day off with hubby. We have been outside (I just snuck in for a couple of minutes) since about 10 AM. First out in the backyard sitting around the fire pit. Then we adjourned to the covered front porch and are RELAZING and watching the Nascar race. Honey is snoozing and I am reading This Old House and Better Homes and Gardens. Just took about 25 or 30 photos of my yard. I try and do this about every three to four weeks to document the ever-changing perennial gardens and my vege garden.
So going back outside and sit back down in the adirondack chair. Ahhhh! Gorgeous day; just warm enough, lower humidity and a nice fresh breeze. Lot of hummingbirds in the front gardens too. They are loving the feeder and the beebalm and the salvia. Oh the butterflies are enjoying the butterfly bushes and the cone flowers. This is the kind of day I like and I don't have to work today. YEAH!!!! Thanks all, hope to hear from more people. MEANS A LOT TO ME! -------------------- Marion J Chard

Report of Committee Research Department Classification:"Top Secret Toilet Paper" Subject: Missing Members To: HQs 6th Corps Engineer Forum Peeps CC: Whomevah Gives a Chit Dated: Unknown ( Beer Hall didnt have a calender) Findings of this commitee are as follows: 471 members ordered M1932-5, Fluid, Keyboard, Type 74, using Requisition Form 9-62-13F from the 3-0Worst Quartermaster Supply Depot. They received instead a triplicate ration of Type 7S French Keyboard Fluid which only allowed the keys I,S,U,R,E,N,D,R to work. 2 members thought a Combat Engineer website would have pictures of a choo-choo mounting a Quad50. 13 members are in the Thoid Army stockade for not wearing leggings while scrambling eggs in their helmet. 47 members deleted their "Favorite Places" folder after reading the latest issue of "The Gestapo Garden Cookbook". 166 members were redirected to the Screamin Meanies website by parachutists disquised as 6th Corps MP`s. 312 of those members claim George Bush did it. And finaly, 1 member was , like, sooo disappointed that Winston Churchill didnt appear when clicking the "PM" button. -------------------- Larry

That was hysterical. I repeat, that was hysterical!
Where in the world did you come up with this stuff??? I loved all of them, but believe one of my favorite explanations was the QUOTE And finally, 1 member was , like, sooo disappointed that Winston Churchill didnt appear when clicking the "PM" button. Damn it, WHERE is Winnie when ya need him??? This was the first thing I read when I got out of bed, and it sure made my morning. Think I will come back and read it a few more times during my day! "Where in the world did you come up with this stuff???"
The committee arrived at its findings by using precise methods & procedures established in Army FM 540-633487b, Research Methods for Pycho Clerks, Chapter VI, Subsection Z- How to Confuzed the Brass. And Chapter VII, Subsection XXX- Never miss an opportunity to make the boss laugh. "And now I have another job for you..." UT OH -------------------- Larry

As for my absence, last year was especially difficult for me with very little personal time to spare. It also seemed as if every time I logged on I read about the passing of one of our veteran members. I think at one time you had the most active WWII and Korean War era vets of any other site and it deeply saddens me that they are gone...
I am still here tho, lurking in the shadows. love and support, B -------------------- God bless those heroes who suffered and died, for plain folks, like you and me.

Sure good to hear from you. And I totally understand about the "passing" thing. We'll just leave it at that, for it's very difficult for me to deal with too... How's the soap business coming along? -------------------- Marion J Chard

I can understand your feelings throughout this thread M1, from the loss of vets to the absence of some members. But remember you have over these last years touched many lives and given a place for people all over the world to share their enthusiasm for keeping alive the memories, sacrifices and thoughts on WW2. For this I and I know many others thank you Marion. Your Dad is very lucky to have his 'proud daughter'!

Colin, as always, you know the right healing words to say. I think on top of it all, is the tremendous amount of energy I have poured in the documentary. I feel my entire heart and soul have gone into it, and then when I finally release it and make that huge step...
After going through all that, it just seems that most people kind of blew it off, and not even a word was mentioned, not even a hey, congrats. That would have been nice. Just an acknowledgment; one kind word. Well I guess that's human nature. Have a wonderful day; I am. It's beautiful today with a warm wonderful breeze and plenty of sunshine. Not too hot; just right! -------------------- Marion J Chard
