A documentary in progress...

Several people have approached me over the last few weeks, with the idea of previewing a portion of my documentary in the making. So by popular demand, I am fulfilling that request.

The completed series will be an in-depth presentation, several hours in length, spanning multiple DVD's. It will encapsulate the combat engineers' footsteps from training in the states in '41 and '42, through war's end in Germany and Austria. My goal is to have it completed by Christmas 2008, whereupon I will submit it to PBS for consideration, and also place it for sale to all interested parties.

The following video clip is 35 minutes in length, and is a "diamond-in-the-rough" rendition of the first segment, A Call to Duty, 1941 to 1942. Please note, this is a sneak preview and not a finished/polished presentation, but a work in progress. Additions and changes are always being made, as well as needed tweaking, i.e., music and voice equalization. Therefore it is only meant to give you a "feel" for the final production.

While I will continue to narrate the presentation, various "actors" will speak the parts for each featured veteran, by creating voice-overs. I hope to have these incorporated within the next few weeks, but in the meantime I have supplied the voices of the men for production's sake (I'm feverishly working on my 5 o'clock shadow and lowering my voice an octave. Ha-ha!)

The work will include photographs from the men themselves, their stories taken from diaries, biographies and autobiographies, archived film footage from the National Archives and other sources, etc., and will feature audio & video interviews of the veterans, and historians from the Army Corps of Engineers - Office of History. It is my goal to produce a well-balanced documentary, by including a wealth of sources and various forms of media.

This entire project is being funded by the private sector, and several veterans, along with family members and friends, have already contributed to this project. I would like to take this time to thank you for your kindness and generosity, for without your assistance, this project simply would not be possible. I am also looking for corporate sponsorship and hope by offering previews via my web site, I will be able to generate interest amongst small and large businesses alike.

In order to facilitate this, I've started a new company, Proud Daughter, Inc , which will handle all the aspects of funding and production. It will also allow me to consider and pursue future projects including articles, books and documentaries.

These web shows are presented for your viewing pleasure in various formats for PC and MAC users. Note: Depending on the type of format selected, and your particular internet connection, download times will vary, so please be patient while waiting for the show to completely load.

The Photodex show, while offering a larger viewing area and better quality, will demand a small "plug-in" in order to run. This download is safe, but will only work for PC users.

I'm also providing two Flash shows, which should work for PC's and MAC's alike. The first is a lower quality version (384 K cable, dish, DSL). The second, a higher quality rendition for those with top-speed broadband capabilities (1.5 M).

Thank you for stopping by.

Warm regards,
Marion J Chard
